Rochester response to Craig Johnson’s landmark victory

Landmark since it’s the first non-Republican sent from SSD-07 to the state Senate in 100 years. I think it was Teddy Roosevelt who called the state Senate “A Republican institution”.

Landmark since it’s a clear win despite the state GOP’s over-the-top negative ads, dirty tricks, fake robocalls, and illegal voter intimidation. Karl Rove would be proud.

This is a big win for Spitzer and a big win for reform in Albany. There are rumors enough GOP state senators are going to flip that the senate will flip as a whole to Dem control. Who’s gonna flip? Joe Robach, Tom Morahan, John Bonacic?

I don’t know about the other two, but the paint’s barely dried on Robach’s swell new GOP nametag he got 5 years ago when he switched for “a million good reasons”. I honestly don’t know how I’d feel about it. I would probably suck it up and go along for the benefit of Team Reform, but his 70% rating from the Conservative Party still gives me the willies.

Oh, and as for the local response? Officially, crickets chirping, based on the local news searches I’ve done.
