Recycling update Wayne and Monroe
If you have followed the thread, I’ve discussed Chinese food, plastic containers, oil, and recycling.
Well, reading recycling information it seems that one of the reasons #1 and #2 are recycled as opposed to #3 and #7 is there doesn’t seem to be a market or volume. Thomas even makes comments to that effect in the original post (no this isn’t dissing Thomas). Well, I guess that’s it, or as the line from a movie name I can’t remember goes “Game over, Man”
Well, not exactly. I’m sure somewhere in America, someone recycles #3 to #7 plastics. If only this were close to Monroe County.
Well, How close is Wayne County? No, not the one in PA, the one right next door to Monroe county. Guess what they recycle Plastic #1 to #7.
Then there is Yates County. Know what? they too recycle Plastic #1 to #7.
So, a how is it that a county with a population of over 90,000 or another one with a population of 24,000 can institute a recycling program that collects Plastic #1 to #7. Somehow the volume generated by these counties is worth while. Then there is Monroe county with a population of 700,000 that cannot generate enough Plastic #3 to #7 to make it worthwhile?
Maybe someone can get a COMIDA grant to collect and ship plastics to Wayne county to it can be recycled.
Is this a business opportunity that is being wasted?
Everything goes somewhere. Where is this going?

Herkimer County also recycles all plastics, and has done so for many years. I know “Game over, man” was used in the movie “Aliens” by the character played by Lance Henrikson.
Sorry, the actor was Bill Paxton.
Thanks.
Not surprising about Herkimer. I’m sure there are others as well. Being a resident in Monroe County. I don’t think we are even scratching the surface of possibility.
Rather than look to the future we are trying to maintain the past.
[...] New initiatives to divert plastic and glass drink containers to from landfills. As we discovered here, Monroe County lags its neighbors in plastic recycling. LAGS ITS NEIGHBORS. Wayne County, Yates County recycle 1 - 7 plastic, Monroe 1-2. What new intitatives did we do? Tell people to recycle? How about giving people the opportunity to do more recycling? [...]
