Hevesi to resign

From the New York Times:

State Comptroller Alan G. Hevesi is planning to resign and plead guilty to a felony to settle a criminal inquiry into his use of state workers as chauffeurs and personal aides for his wife, a Democratic state official said today.

Lawyers for Mr. Hevesi, a Queens Democrat, have been in talks with prosecutors from the Albany County district attorney’s office this week, trying to head off an indictment by a grand jury that is expected to be handed up on Friday.

Update: In the comments, J mentions that our own Joe Morrelle now might be a candidate for the Comptroller job.

I think this is a good thing. Dems can’t be shown as tolerant of corrupt behavior. That said, who does the Lege replace him with? Anyone else like H. Carl McCall (if he’d consider it)?

Good that he resigned bad that he was re-elected.

On NPR yesterday, they said Joe Morelle was a short list candidate…

I think it’s good too.

I find it a bit hard to get worked up about what Hevesi did, given that it involves his sick wife, though. I hope this doesn’t distract from the real issues that Albany faces. I’d almost say the same thing about Brunogate — I’m not happy that he’s a crook, but let’s focus on the system, not on that.

ya, basically… I was in the car for a few mins and NPR was talking about getting your house ready for the holidays… I can think of no better reason to listen to WHAM when that’s the alternative.

Fighting the urge to make WHAM radio joke…I grew up on those videos.
