Monroe County Leg meeting tonight to vote on budget
It should be interesting. From News8Now:
Just one day before Monroe County legislators are set to adopt the 2007 budget, there is a last minute squabble between Democrats and Republicans. Democrats say Republicans aren’t being honest about the actual property tax rate, and they say millions of dollars coming into the county aren’t being budgeted. Republicans are calling it an eleventh hour attack.
“Eleventh hour attack”? Cry me a river. The Republicans on the Leg are the ones who voted to move the budget unveiling date until after the election. (With a couple notable exceptions.) So, yeah, moving the date from the 2nd Tuesday in October to November 15 means you get 3 weeks– a month less than before– to go over a 700 page document.
So, “eleventh hour”? Well, yeah, that’s what you get when you release the friggin Encyclopedia Monroeica at 10:59.
The County Leg meeting is tonight, 6 PM, in the County Office Building. The meeting will be held in the fourth-floor legislative chambers, 39 W. Main St. in Rochester.
Bring popcorn. My prediction: Dems will offer amendments to fix the problems glossed over in the budget, and will get shot down, as usual, by the GOP majority. Remind you of another legal body over the last 6 years? Oh, yeah– what do they call it? The U.S. Congress, right?
(Oh, the RNews pic is showing proof of this:
Democratic county legislators say the county’s property tax rate of $9.10 per thousand dollars of value is not what taxpayers are paying.
Whoops! And they would’ve gotten away with it too, if it weren’t for you meddling Dems!)

I wish I can be there. Good Luck and take some hard hitting footage!
[...] Yup, just as I predicted. Dems propose, Republicans squash. When a dorky guy with a keyboard can predict what skilled politicians are gonna do, you know they’re in a rut. [...]
