On those robocalls

I don’t know what action, if any, is being taken about the robocalls that plagued NY-25 and NY-29 this election. I’m still not sure if they were really illegal or not (the issue here is that many of the laws about solitication don’t apply to political calls). But if they were legal, they won’t be legal next cycle if we’re lucky, according to TPM Muckraker.

Its just amazing to me how rank-and-file Reps aren’t disgusted with their own Party outright lying to them. There are Reps out there that honestly think they have to vote party-line, because its the law. They’ve been told this. One guy told the campaign I worked on that when he turned 18, the Republican Chairman in the area he grew up in showed up at his house and told him he had to register and vote Republican or his life would pretty much be made miserable. He no longer believed this, but it stuck with him for a long time. He said even today he has reservations when he steps in the voting booth. One lady said to our candidate in a prior campaign that she was convinced the Reps would know who she voted for, and said the best way she could help was to stay home on election day. This is what we have to contend with in some of our rural towns. Ridiculous child’s play!
