Buh Bye Steve Minarik
Minarik will leave by the end of the year. He will apparently continue to be the Monroe County Republican Party Chair.
Per the D&C
Nassau County GOP Chairman Joseph Mondello is expected to be the successor.
Both Exile’s analysis and that of the D&C argue that isn’t Minarik’s fault with the D&C writing.
But even critics said it’s hard to place the decline of the state GOP at Minarik’s feet. The party was up against better-known Democrats — including Gov.-elect Eliot Spitzer and Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton — and the state has 2 million more enrolled Democrats than Republicans.
I’m not sure I agree with that until I analyze where those 2 million more Democrats live. I know they don’t live in some WNY Congressional districts. If they mostly live in the NYC area then why is there a Republican Mayor?
And I don’t want to let this a positive comment about Minarik slip by without a comment
Republicans did retain control of the state Senate and won the three congressional seats held by the GOP in Monroe County.
Congratulations. The Republicans held on to a gerrymandered State Senate and 3 Congressional seats they all ready held? No mention of the 3 seats they lost as well as no Democratic seats picked up.
I also like the use of the term “won”. Retained would be more appropriate but “won” is a more powerful word than “retained”. The Dems “won” 3 seats previously held by Republicans. Hey D&C - put it in perspective!
Now - Minarik is dumb like a fox and he comes home to focus on 2007 where we have County Executive races as well as some town races. I have to look up the number of voters but unless you live in the town of Brighton - Monroe County is Republican with a smattering of Democratic success. Reynolds and Walsh carried Monroe County. BTP posted about the challenges here with a graph of elected Democrats.
Our job will be to ensure Minarik’s statewide success is transferred to the local level and that is done by shining light on our Monroe County Elected Officials.

I say we enroll Minarik in the dozen donut of the day club for several months and then convince him to run a marathon.
He didn’t win anything. Maffei and Massa won in Monroe County. Democrat Pat Gallaher won in Monroe County. Democrat Steve Lindley was the number one vote-getter for Supreme Court. The Democrats even made inroads in towns they’ve had no presence in for decades. That op-ed was full of lies as usual.
