[...] Remember my rant about the D&C endorsement of Pirro? I couldn’t understand how a paper would endorse someone who apparently used their office for personal gain. (Yes, the D&C endorsed Jeanine Pirro for AG). I said then and I’ll say again I don’t want someone as AG (or any office) who believes the law doesn’t apply to them.
Tom. You brought up the Messenger Post. Not me. The NY Post endorsed Cuomo and I'm sure you can find newspapers across the state that endorse either Pirro or Cuomo. That isn't the point

I asked about Cuomo's ethical baggage and you respond with a single sentence about taking a job with someone who was fined. OK. Perhaps a little more specifics would be appropriate here. Was it illegal? Unethical? What is your point here? Someone should not be employed by a company/person who was once fined? But again, that isn't the point of the post.

Reread the post. The point was the uneven endorsement outcome. Sometimes they endorse, sometimes they don't. Pirro spends a portion of her hour bashing her opponent. The D&C missed some other ethical issues of Pirro. Pirro brings up Cuomo's lawyerly qualifications and the D&C prints that.

I don't have the details of why Cuomo didn't make the interview with the D&C. On the surface he should have. Seems there is something else behind the scenes between the D&C and Cuomo and I'd like more details. Those details should have filled the lines in the endorsement piece instead of Pirro questioning her opponent and the D&C printing that.

So, on to other issues.

Are you saying you have a problem with the D&C not endorsing Cuomo, but it's ok that Messenger post didn't endorse Cuomo? I'm confused. Mentioning Messenger Post was just a reference to point out that it's not just the D&C that has concerns about Cuomo and Hevesi.

Cuomo's ethical baggage...Takes a job with someone who was fined $7 million dollars by HUD--that says alot.

I'm not a big Cuomo fan, but he did win the Democratic Primary. He was the choice of the people. To me he is the better choice over Pirro, who has made very poor choices in her public life. No way will I throw away my vote to any of candidates of the other political parties. Andrew will have one of the best there to advise him.

Really? Define Cuomo's ethical baggage.

Again the post was about the D&C not the Messenger Post so why bring that up? What is the point?

Messenger Post papers did NOT endorse Cuomo or Hevesi also.

Cuomo has the same amount of ethical baggage as Pirro but less experience...so Pirro becomes a top choice.

Out of pity for her husband screwing her career? Must be a lot of pity there. Who did Spitzer endorse certainly not Pirro?

If Cuomo turns into Hevesi - punish him

I don't really like either of them. Cuomo ran HUD while it screwed over everyone in NYC. The Village Voice called HUD the city's worst landlord this year, and it's mostly due to what happened during Cuomo's tenure. I probably would like Pirro out of pity for her husband screwing up her career but the wire tapping is a bit much. Frankly, I don't think either of them should hold the office after Spitzer but hey, what can you do. Just pray Cuomo doesn't turn into Hevesi.

I agree that Cuomo, if he wanted the endorsement, should have made himself available. But, what in the phone call made it unacceptable? Was it too short? last minute? Exactly why is that inadequate? This was not adequately addressed

No reason to give anyone a free pass I agree. So why were not tougher questions asked of Pirro? no bid contracts? the guy who she refused to review his case and since went free (he was originally wrongfully convicted and spent 16 years half of his life in jail). Why she pulled out of the Senate race? For someone who is fiercely independent it seems she has her strings pulled by her party.

Tom et al - the post is about perceived uneven endorsement process. read all the endorsements

Pirro has ethical baggage and she gets endorsed or that ethical baggage gets ignored as in the case of the no bid contracts.

Higher standards absolutely they apply to everyone

I would caution the use of the word criminal. Isn't that for the courts to decide? Right now there is a damning ethics commission report but technically Hevesi is under investigation. As far as I know Hevesi is not convicted of anything. Neither is Pirro but I didn't use the work criminal to discribe Pirro.
