Vets for Kuhl missing something big
Kuhl recently unveiled his latest in what I’m going to assume is not astroturf– “Veterans For Kuhl”. From Kuhl’s website (couldn’t find it anywhere else):
Veterans from across the 29th Congressional District of New York have joined together to form “Veterans for Kuhl,” a non-partisan committee which will work for the re-election of Congressman John R. “Randy” Kuhl, Jr.
The press release then lists vets in the district along with their statements of support. Even though the article came from the Kuhl campaign, Randy acts surprised:
Congressman Kuhl reacted to the formation of the “Veterans for Kuhl” committee by saying, “I am honored that Veterans from across the district are giving me their support for re-election. These men and women who have risked everything to defend our country must be cared for properly by a grateful nation. I pledge to continue to fight for fair and proper treatment of all our Veterans who have given so much.”
Uh-oh. If those vets are counting on him to “fight for fair and proper treatment”, shouldn’t they take a look at his record? Some have, and as we’ve noted before, the Disabled American Vets rate him an anemic 25%.
The Rural Patriot clued me into a new vets group, Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans of America, who recently gave Kuhl a D rating. LV Vet in TRP’s comments notes that only one person scored lower– Rick Santorum, with a D-.
To the Vets for Kuhl: whoops! You may want to support an actual vet if you want them to “fight for fair and proper treatment” for vets.

If a group is created and they don’t have a web page, do they exist? ; )
maybe “do they matter?” is a better question.
“Existential Vets for Kuhl”?
I thought that too, but googling it came up with one result, from Kuhl’s website. (singing, lounge-style): Astroturf, bay-bayyy.
So, Zinnfan, bored since Blogger’s down?
Zinn - I think the question is: If a group meets in a phone booth and travels to meetings in a tandem bicycle with one seat empty, does it still matter?
Well, they’re doing what they can to matter. In the absence of a website, what do you to to raise your own volume? Well, comment on someone else’s webpage, that’s what. Check out the comments (they’re HaloScan, so you gotta click on the little quote bubble at the top of the article) on that article. Count on getting a few of those, yourselves, in the next few weeks.
Yeah, we’ve been getting them all along, not as well-spoken as your commenter, and usually more swears in there, which is why you don’t see them here.
BTW, the comment counter for that article says zero even though there’s 3.
Yeah, I’m still trying to figure that one out. The comments and trackbacks *work* just fine, but not the labels. I have a hunch it might have something to do with the GIFs, but I don’t know for sure.
Was looking at the Veterans for Kuhl list. The 4th name down is John Sampson. He is the Cattaraugus County Veterans Service Director, appointed by a Republican Legislature and serving at the pleasure of a Republican Legislature (and the chairman of the county Republican Party). I do not believe Cattaraugus County has any department heads who are registered Democrat. They use to but for some unknown reason those department heads switched political partys. You do what your told to do, or else.
I wonder if the other gentlemen are in the same boat.
I wanted to see what this group was all about, and I ended up here. I mean a website isn’t actually nessisary for a group of people, but they’re so damn easy to make why wouldn’t you, unless your just a fly by night sham trying to build a little support for your canidate. makes sence to have it a “veterans” group supporting kuhl as the majority of actual vets will probably support one of their own (massa). Thanks for the info folks, and I’ll probably be linking to this post soon down at AotP.
Go Eric!
Veterans for Kuhl…
When Randy Kuhl announced the formation of a Veterans for Kuhl group, I ignored it, just as I ignore most press releases from both candidates. However, when Roll Call (The Newspaper of Capitol Hill) picks it up and treats it…
[...] I wonder what Vets for Kuhl and the former Congressman who speaks for them have to say about all this. Are they with the men on the ground or with George Bush and Donald Rumfsled? I wonder. [...]
