Republicans - peeking behind the curtain and it’s ugly.
Let me just say that if you are not out talking to your voter friends, the ones on the fence, the ones who are disengaged, and making them aware and getting them to vote, then you are helping ensure a Republican victory in November. Preaching to the choir is important, but not enough.
The National Republican party in general has not been held accountable for their failed policies. Then there is the blaming shifting. Blaming someone else for your failures is cowardice. The Republicans are cutting and running from the demands of decency.
When Mark Foley was out there terrorizing kids, the Republican leadership knew and chose to stay silent. Chose to stay silient. To sacrifice the innocence of children is reprehensible. To perpetuate it is without conscience. The Republican House leadership chose to perpetuate it.
We can and should discuss Foley, his acts, the resulting GOP’s follies, but again, the bigger issue is failure of leadership. True leadership starts by accountability.
There is no accountability at the Republican national level.
Start with Iraq. Medals of Freedom instead of body armor. Rumsfeld and the rest and for what? This is how we care for our nation’s sons and daughters? Check out Gen Batiste’s comments here, here and here.
So does this lack of accountability only happen in a far away place called Washington?
Nope
Where do you think National Republicans come from? State Republicans. Where do State Republicans come from? Local Republicans. They get there by embracing the behavior of their party leaders.
Look at the 2 Monroe County Legislature Republicans who voted with Democrats not to shift budget approval past Election day. Gee, what an idea to allow voters to assess candidates on budget issues BEFORE an election. What happened to them? They were stripped from their committees. Punished.
So Let’s look at some New York State Republicans - not in any particular order.
Jeanine Pirro - the DA from Westchester County running for NYS ATTORNEY GENERAL is under federal investigation for hiring someone to wiretap her husband. Oh, how about those no bid contracts to Bernie Kerik? Yes, something else on Jeanine. It appears she is ethically challenged
Rudy Giuliani - Who endorsed Bernie Kerik to the national level? Founded a business with Bernie? Bernie with mob connections and other unsavory aspects of his life. Rudy – come on you didn’t know? Oh, and don’t get me started with air quality at ground zero. In 2001 there were air quality questions and in 2006, Christy Whitman is throwing Giuliani under the bus. I’m sure our heroic first responders operating without proper equipment appreciate the ground zero cough.
Jim Walsh lies about the minimum wage vote.
Tom Reynolds = Mark Foley
Randy Kuhl - l let your 90% lock step Republican vote speak for itself. Your tax dollar best spent in Iraq comments provide ample insight into your loyalty. I laugh at your commercial where you say how you are in favor of lowering taxes. What were you doing in the NYS legislature for 20 odd years? Oh, maybe I’ll change my name to Paris Hilton, or McHilton so I can be honored on tartan day.
Jim Alesi - with questionable business contracts with certain colleges in his district. The write up in the D&C was interesting.
So Jim says there’s no reason and no rule that would require me to go out of business just to become a public servant followed by As long as I am doing business on a competitive-bid basis, I don’t see any problem with that at all I’ve lost more bids than I’ve won.
Then Nazareth College says they don’t bid out [Alesi's] contract because they are satisfied with the service and there aren’t many companies in Rochester who offer laundry service.
But the U of R contracts with a different company. Which beat out Alesi’s company. Oh the U of R and Nazareth are in the same city. Makes you wonder.
Did he do anything wrong? I don’t claim to know all the details, but one would think that Jim Alesi would want to avoid the mere appearance of impropriety. Then again Bill Frist has his not quite blind trust, I can only surmise that if appearance were important to Mr Alesi then he would do something about it. Guess not.
Heck, we even have judge wantabe Dan Doyle running for Supreme Court with lawn signs that imply he is actually a Judge. You are misrepresenting yourself.
Feel free to add to the list in the comments.
Time to clean house. Like I said - If you are not out their talking to your voter friends, the ones on the fence, the ones who are disengaged, then you are helping ensure a Republican victory in November. Preaching to the choir is simply not enough.

If we’re talking able local republicans with questionable actions and dubious connections, how can we leave out “Boss Billy Reilich”?
Well, because this post was written in 2006.
