Misleading the Witness

Dan Doyle Sign

Tell me the truth, doesn’t this sign imply that Dan Doyle is already a Judge?

Well – he’s not. As far as I can tell, he has never been. I say he is misleading voters

Here is the write-up from the local D&C regarding all people running for Supreme Court. In Dan’s case, I don’t see previous judge experience listed.

As you may or may not know, NYS Supreme Court is a general trial court meaning they hear new evidence as opposed to Appellate Courts who hear and rule on the existing evidence.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have a person with actual bench experience on a general trial court?

So Dan - Judges Lindley, Kehoe and Frazee have earned the right to put the word Judge in front of their name.

You have not

While there’s no way I’m going to ever vote for anything that self-identifies as “Conservative” or “Republican”, I see no problem with the wording of Doyle’s yard signs. In the context, it’s easy to realize that the candidate is running for judge, rather than implying that he is a judge ; it’s not like he’s putting it on his resume.

If Doyle is elected to the office, by law he will be a judge, and will start gaining judiciary experience starting with his first day on the job. Everyone’s got to start somewhere.

I just trust that NYS has a requirement that candidates for judge have an actual legal degree and be members of the bar association (many places don’t, especially for city or town judge positions). Make of that what you will. I’ve always thought the idea of electing judges was just stupid. Vote to retain in office, yes. Elect, no. Ditto for other jobs which largely involve technical expertise or bureaucratic functions, such as coroner or clerk of records.

I know you have many superpowers (including an almost scary encylopedic knowledge of all things history), but for a mere mortal like me, well, I was fooled. For me it was precisely the context that made me think he was already a judge. A simple error? Maybe. But I’ve peered over the shoulders of enough campaigns to know that a lot of thought goes into layout. “Judge” is grouped with “Dan Doyle” in the blue area, not with “Supreme Court” in the red area.

BTP sums it up nicely, however, When you are driving by the lawn sign at 20 plus miles per how you don’t see the tiny little word “for” in the title. The fact that the words Supreme Court and Judge are in different color areas draws a line between these concepts. Then there is the little fact that the font and color scheme for Dan Doyle and Judge are identical.

Yes, if elected Judge he is a would be a judge. He is not a judge now and is mislesading and misrepresenting his qualifications on his lawn signs.

  5. [...] Heck, we even have judge wantabe Dan Doyle running for Supreme Court with lawn signs that imply he is actually a Judge. You are misrepresenting yourself. [...]

  6. [...] See for yourself at my earlier post. [...]

  7. Very misleading says:

Dan Doyle’s lawn signs ARE misleading! It is just another ploy to fool the public. And, he works at the Monroe County Law Department, well I should say “not works” because he is never there but gets over $125,000 a year! Every Friday you can catch him having lunch with Steve Minarik at Republican Headquarters. His salary with the County was way less than the $125K but since he is Steve Minarik’s best buddy—he complained that he did not make enough so surprise surprise—Doyle gets a $40,000 raise during a BUDGET CRISIS!! People who are being laid off should be outraged but no one cares!! When will the public wake up?? He will rubber stamp all lawsuits brought by Republican supporters no need for legal analysis. It is funny because we had a Republican governor, a Republican County Executive (Brooks & Doyle), most of the town supervisors are Republicans and probably the school boards but my taxes have gone up every year!!!!! People have to stop believing their bullsh*& and vote them out!!!!!!

Geez, I’m honored that you sought out this post from oh, October 2006. Why so late?

“After reading these comments I spoke to Dan”

Well “informed” I’m glad this post prompted you to call upon a sitting Supreme Court Judge, have an audience granted and learn all there is about Judge Doyle. Geez did you know him already or something? I doubt that you happen to a regular unconnected person. Sounds like you are misrepresenting your circumstances.

    I guess birds of a feather…

Alas, you miss the point with regards to Judge Doyle. See, I can say Judge Doyle because he is only now a Judge (well when he was sworn in in January).

Whereas in October he was misleading the voters with his misleading signs when we wasn’t a judge.

“Let’s stop being nasty” How is this stop misrepresenting one’s self.
