The “it’s not my fault” crowd
I don’t know about you but I’m frustrated at the “it’s not my fault” crowd and, by extension, it is someone else’s fault. Why stop there? There is an entire industry apologists that continue the cycle.
Pick a topic
- Foley? He is a gay drunk so it isn’t his fault and those beast Pages egged  him on.
- Iraq? faulty intel.
- Katrina? Ray Nagin.
- All the rest of the world’s troubles? Bill Clinton.
Jeanine Pirro? I read in the Saturday Democrat and Chronical Lenore Skenazy’s latest piece about Jeanine Pirro. It struck a chord. I’ll have more on blame shifting later in the week but in the meantime,
The summary Lenore’s piece (I could only find the abstract on line not the full piece)
- We all bug our spouses
- Her marriage was terrible
- Al Pirro is a lousy choice for husband
- C’est la vie
- Male leaders don’t get measured by the woman at their side so why do woman?
- We are voting for Pirro not her husband
- Look at the record and Jeffrey Deskovic if you really want to
- Tom Cruise
OK Here is a blinding flash of the obvious.
Pirro is running for New York State Attorney General and is being investigated for illegally wiretapping her husband. This is something she is accused of doing while she was a DA. The tapes, yes there are tapes, are pretty damning to any counter arguments. Oh, and close association with Bernie Kerik doesn’t help either.
She chose to pursue an illegal action. This isn’t about her husband it is about her. I don’t want anyone in that office who breaks the laws or even thinks about breaking the laws.
Oh and Jeffrey Deskovic?
His conviction was overturned based on new DNA evidence after serving 16 years in jail. The day he was to be released Pirro was to have scheduled a news conference outlining her support for the death penalty.
Pirro didn’t prosecute Deskovic as DA, that was before her time but once she became the DA in Westchester County, Deskovic petitioned her to reexamine evidence. From the New York Daily News
In 1997, four years into Pirro’s tenure as district attorney, Deskovic wrote her a letter to retest the evidence after hearing she supported overturning wrongful convictions with DNA proof, he said.
He got back a “short and terse” reply - essentially saying that a judge and jury had spoken and any further contact should come from his lawyers, according to the Innocence Project, a legal clinic created to help the wrongfully convicted through more advanced DNA testing.
Now in fairness, there is a debate, that the whether the DNA technology available in 1997 would have exonerated Deskovic. But this editorial sums up the issues nicely.
A 16 year old kid accused of murder, questioned by the police for several hours, without representation and the primary evidence against Deskovic is his “confession†which he later retracted. Sounds like a slam dunk to me.
Jeanine Pirro appears ready to throw someone under the bus to maintain her image of tough on crime.
Then again – look who the National Republican Leadership throws under the bus to ensure they maintain power.
I’ve had enough of them and Ms Pirro.
