What happens ’round heah post-election?

This has been a subject the RT bloggers have been kicking around for the last couple of weeks. We’re committed to a) de-mystifying politics, and b) scooching our corner of the country every so slightly towards a more progressive future.

For the last little while, we’ve been hanging on to the crazy ride of election season politics, and while it’s been fun, it’s extremely short-term, and our focus is much longer. I agree somewhat with DragonFly’s take on it:

Then again, I’m getting a little bored of all the Foley/Reynolds talk on the Left, too. In general, the election-year garbage is getting a bit old.

I’m not bored, but I am a little winded, especially in the wake of the flurry of Foley/Reynolds posting (even though Exile did most of it and is now taking a couple of well-deserved days off).

So I’ve been thinking, what comes after the election? I’ve got a host of things I’m dying to cover, and we’ll be getting to those soon enough. But I’d like to find out what you’d like to read about. We’ve got several hundred folks reading this daily now, and only a small percentage of you comment. Consider this an invitation to come out of the woodwork and put your wishlist in the comments.Â

I’ve been toying with the idea of a “summit” of all the major progressive bloggers in Rochester, to see if we can’t pull together some ideas not just for stuff to write about, but stuff we can champion to make Rochester a better place to live. Soon after the election would be a great time for it. Any takers?

    Hmmm. . .

I’m all for a “summit,” but I do wonder whether our numbers are large enough to support said “summit.” A chance for everyone to meet face to face would be an opportunity to present the rest of Rochester with a cohesive bloc of writers and activists, which I think in turn can be good for the readership of all the blogs and success of the activists concerned.

It would be nice to think that the progressive blog scene could have a genuine impact on the thinking in Rochester - and possibly even the reporting, and I don’t think its outside the realm, we simply need to get a more organized approach. It’s not about having the same message (personally, I think that’s the last thing we need), but about proactively cross-linking, commenting and sharing our resources (intellectual and otherwise) to saturate the Internet and even consider moving beyond that. Right now, if you search for “progressive politics rochester,” you get my site as the top site. Not bad, as long as people are looking for that one relatively narrow band of information. But what needs to happen is for the progressive message in Rochester to permeate the top search results across a wide variety of topics. That raises the credibility of our shared or individual messages quite a bit.

    Anyway, that’s my two cents.

  3. [...] There is rather a lot of talk about a “Prog Roc Summit,” or perhaps “Conference,” or perhaps a “Half Dozen Computer Geeks in a Stuffy Room.” [...]
