Via Buffalo Geek, who has been nothing short of heroic over the past few days: Foley thought about retiring from Congress and Reynolds talked him out of it. This was after Reynolds had seen the “overly friendly” emails:

After it was learned that Rep. Mark Foley dispatched an inappropriate email message to a 16 year old male former page, the House Republican leadership was still urging him to seek reelection from his Florida district. He agreed.

A member of the House leadership told me that Foley, under continuous political pressure because of his sexual orientation, was considering not seeking a seventh term this year but that Rep. Tom Reynolds, Chairman of the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), talked him into running.

I wonder what Laura Bush thinks about all of this.
