Cheney visit roundup

In the flurry of posts about Cheney’s visit to prop up Kuhl, a couple things stood out, and they all link together. Exile’s post below links to Joe Spector’s D&C article. (My jury’s still out on how good a political reporter is– I need more data points– but this article is pretty decent.) A couple things stood out. In the article, Kuhl says:

Kuhl, who is seeking a second two-year term, defended the visits, saying it’s an opportunity for the heads of the country to spend some time in Rochester and learn about the area.

But, as nequals1 points out below, Cheney’s having a lunch fundraiser to support PA senator Rick Santorum (who is similarly right-wing compared to the people he’s representing). One could assume he’s leaving tonight to get back to D.C. And in the few hours he’s here, he’ll be busy in transit and getting his pic taken with a goodly number of people. So, yeah, he’ll be spending “some time” in Rochester, but “learn about the area”? Come on. Cheney’s done at least 90 of these things so far, all over the country. To say he’s going to give two craps about each of these 90 areas he’s visited, let alone remember them, is pretty insulting. I mean, come on already.

I like that Spector captures the mood round these parts:

Indicative of the area’s mood, two protests were held Thursday — one on the war and one on prescription drug coverage. Another anti-war protest is timed around Cheney’s visit at 4:30 p.m. today at Washington Square Park downtown.

It’s amazing to me that seniors, young, and middle aged are all protesting. Maybe this is what they talk about when they give lip service to “healing the divide” in our country. Go against the wishes of the people, keep trying to destroy the middle class, and eventually the people drop their partisan issues and stand against you. If so, well done, gents!

But I think this stood out the most:

Kuhl said he expects voters to view him on his record, not on who he brings to town.

Uh-oh. That may be a bad move. Especially since they seem to be related.

Learn about the area? I wonder if Cheney is going to stop of at Nick Tahou’s for a garbage plate… maybe he can check out where the fast ferry used to be. Nah, these events are just surgical strikes, that’s how they manage to get 2 or 3 in per day.

Just out of curiosity, what plane does the VP take? It’s not airforce one, could it be Halliburton two?

Funny. It might as well be. According to the D&C article, he’s flying in & out on Air Force II.
