One voter at a time
So, I’m at work, doing the coffee corner routine and someone is venting about his new apartment, roommates, roommates friends and all the stuff I once dealt with in a previous life. But, When opportunity knocks, you have to take advantage of it.
Later that day ask him. Did you recently move? Oh, yes, so what about registering to vote? I get an unsolicited download about politics - no W fan etc. He realizes that he needs to take care of it. I tell him I will get him a form.
Two days later, I have a form and I’m politely informed that he already took care of it at the DMV.
How cool is that?
Start identifying people now who need to reregister after a move, need absentee ballots, aren’t registered or otherwise otherwise assistance.
Listen for opportunities and turn them into discussions.

I love hearing about how you engage folks about politics, even as dry as getting them registered normally is. I don’t know if you saw earlier, but I found a cool link along these lines that made me think of you:ÂÂ the Monroe County sponsored page where you can find out who all your local, county, state, and federal elected officials are. And there’s even a link to get a voter reg application. Pretty slick.
Good job Stlo… it sounds like he’s a 20 something based on your description too, they are truely a hole in the electorate. If we could get young people to vote… Dems would win basically everything!
[...] I was at dinner tonight with a very good friend of mine. I know he is on the road a lot so while we are discussing politics I ask about Tuesday Nov 7th. Turns out that day will be no exception. So, on to his the computer, off to Rochesterturning.com (a little plug doesn’t hurt), into the comments of my last post about voting and click on the wonderful link BTP provided in the comments. Out of the printer an absentee ballot request. [...]
