Kevin Williams Update

I recently sent Hugh Mitchell (environmental chair of the Sierra Club-Atlantic Chapter) Kevin Williams’s insightful deranged Op-Ed on global warming from the D&C. This is how Mitchell responded:

Kevin is either after personal publicity or is deluded. I checked with him on his references and they are based on some 1997 documents which were later disproved.

Hugh Mitchell

PS: See today’s D&C letter to editor rejecting his theory.

Deluded sounds about right.

Today’s D&C LTE:

Weather societies argue the opposite

Kevin Williams, in his Aug. 22 essay on global warming, shows he obviously has not checked in with home base lately.

The American Meteorological Society from which he claims certification has an officially adopted policy completely contrary to Williams’ conclusions.

The AMS Web site www.ametsoc.org is filled with scientific studies, workshops and polices stating the seriousness of global warming and its global threats. Williams refers us to a few isolated scientists who support his view.

As of July 1, 2005, the AMS endorses the “Joint Academies’ Statement: Global Response to Climate Change” released by the national academies of science in 11 countries, including the National Academy of Sciences in the United States, according to the AMS Web site. The group clearly acknowledges “that the threat of climate change is clear and increasing.” On this vital issue, I accept the solid science of an international brain trust over a media celebrity.

Earth to Kevin Williams, check back with home base, over.

I always knew Kevin Williams was a tool… never knew he was poorly informed or dishonest though…

It’s a sad day when Scott Hetsko is the most dignified weatherman in town

I agree that it would be a sad day IF Hetsko were to be the most dignified…however after reading the following….. “Scott Hetsko, the weather guy at WROC-TV (Channel 8) and Fox News at 10, allows that he is quite good at Ping Pong. “I wouldn’t put me in the Olympics,” he says modestly. “But we recently bought a house with a Ping Pong table, and it all came back.”How so? Well, he defeated his wife, Jennifer. Is she an experienced player? “No. But I played some other people, cousins and my father-in-law, and won.” Hetsko can also curl his tongue. “I’m proud of that,” he says.

And that’s dignified????

As far as Kevin Williams being poorly informed or dishonest I wholeheartedly disagree. He’s just not afraid to voice his opinions. (He doesn’t go along with Al Gore and his cronies…after all, doesn’t Al Gore claim that he invented the internet too?)

WOW - AL Gore has Cronies. Didn’t know that. Is this my crony can out debate your crony? Look We don’t have an issue with opinion. We do have an issue with facts and analysis. The predominance of evidence points to a global warming trend. Sure we have gone through climate cycles over the past millions of years. Trouble is millions and millons of years ago we did not have the industrialized human activity we have now.

That is the difference that not even Kevin Williams can debate. Now when the normally long climate cycles are significantly compressed that is the problem.

But as you stick your head in the sand - say hi to all of the like minded cronies.

Re Gore and “inventing the internet”. Um He did regardless of the poor choice of words here “inventing the internet”. See, in this case, if it is good enough for Newt Gingrich it is good enough for me.

Since when did having a fun spirit and a sense of humor make a person undignified? Keep in mind that many subtleties don’t translate well into print. I’ll admit that Scott Hetsko may not be a stuff shirt by the book weatherman but he clearly loves and cares about the science and he is fun to watch, oh and quite accurate as well. That’s about all I care about.

Good catch. I wonder if Kevin Williams has one of those Armstrong Williams type deal with the Bush administration…

Nice follow-up, op! You’ve become our defacto “science guy”, and I couldn’t be happier. I’m doing some quick research on Kevin’s “sources” and will post later. Want to do an op-ed with me? See if you think what I come up with adds anything to the discussion.

There’s a chance you won’t even need to get up out of your lazy boy! As long as you’re paying attention, we’ll keep ya confused! Go back to watching bad TV!
