boots on the ground, head in the clouds

The Corning Leader has a new piece about Kuhl’s trip to Iraq. Check out the photo of Randy getting his “boots on the ground” with our soliders. It’s an interesting article, since it seems to have a vaguely pro-Kuhl tone, yet it makes Kuhl’s statements look pretty ridiculous. For example:

The U. S. military recently turned over control of one of Iraq’s 18 provinces to the Iraqi military.

“They hope to have all of the provinces turned over to the Iraqi military by the end of the year.” Kuhl said. “(U. S. leaders) are very impressed with the Iraqi military. It’s not inferior to U. S. military in any way.

That’s the first I’ve heard that the Iraqi military is on a par with the greatest military in the history of mankind.

And then there’s this about dealing with the civil war “insurgency”:

Kuhl offered little information about what is being done to stop insurgents other than to say attempts are being made to secure them.

“That’s some highly classified stuff,” Kuhl said. “But the insurgency has definite ties to Iran and Syria.”

Highly classified stuff? At least he didn’t say “I’d love to tell you, but if I told you, I’d have to kill you.”
