Kuhl returns from Iraq with more “stay the course” rhetoric
Randy Kuhl just returned from Iraq. Here’s what he’s got to say:
He states, “I thought it was a worthwhile trip, no question in my mind at all, I guess its one of those things that I guess its frustration that you enter into as a legislator a policy maker, is that you want to have a first hand observation, and hands-on kind of approach.” Kuhl also says he believes that a near-term pullout of US troops would be wrong, and would create a terrorist haven in Iraq.
I find it odd that the first thing he says is in defense of the trip (in response to Massa’s calling a “waste of taxpayer money”, I guess). Also: isn’t it time for the Republicans in Congress to start showing leadership? They know as well you or I that Rumsfeld is, as one pro-war pundit put it, “slightly deranged.” There’s no possible way people like Randy Kuhl believe that things are going well in Iraq or that Rumsfeld has a plan. None. I refuse to believe that Kuhl is that gullible or that stupid. What’s the point of going on trips like this if even seeing things up close won’t persuade lawmakers to speak the truth?

Kuhl is “leading” by taking a junket to Iraq 3 1/2 years into the war? And what made the trip worthwhile? What was gained? Does he now know that the military officials are correct when they say Iraq “might be on the verge of a civil war?” Gee, do you think? Like Jon Stewart said “a civil war or festival, festival civil war…we’re not sure but we’re hoping for a festival”
