Disappearing comments - UPDATED

Our Spam Karma plugin, which we use to prevent “comment spamming” seemed to be especially hungry over the last day or so, eating new and previously existing comments. I’ve restored them and will be looking at how to re-configure the plugin a little later today. Sorry for any inconvenience. Anyone with Spam Karma experience out there?

[UPDATE: I switched over to askimet, per DragonFly's suggestion. Hopefully that'll work a little better. Thanks DragonFly!]

On my old blog… there was just an option to make people type in the text from a distorted image file… that eliminated all spam

You know, Matt actually has that on his blog. I wanted to avoid that if I could since I want to lower barriers to folks commenting. Here’s hoping I don’t have to use it.

Ha!

Sorry to break you’re altruistic spirit, but you’re about to witness the ugly side of the Internet soon. I use Askimet because with very few exceptions, it catches most all of the gratuitously bad spam comments, but even so, I consistently need to check up on trackbacks and comments because you never know what kind of crap they’re going to pull with these spambots.

You may have noticed the forums on my site. Well, never say never, but as it stands now, they’re getting pulled in the next generation because of all the garbage I have to put up with.

And admin’s job is never done. . . .
